Project e2 Home: Caulking Windows and Framing Joints

By Kent Erdahl

When it comes to making your home more energy efficient, one of the easiest things you can do is make your windows and framing joints airtight.

Carrie Law from Sioux Valley Energy explains how they're preventing air leaks at the Project e2 Home.

Caulking the framing joints helps to reduce infiltration of outside air, it basically minimizes leaks.

Attention to detail while building or remodeling will pay off in the future, helping to reduce energy costs.

Even if you aren't building a new home or remodeling, homeowners can still seal up air leaks in their homes with caulk, expanding foam insulation or weather stripping. If you have air leaks in your home it could add up to as much air flow as keeping the window open all winter long.
