Pre-calculus, Constitutional law, Biology 2, Senior English, Journalism and Physics. All in a days work for Marion High School Senior Rachel Schmidt.

"I like to know how things work and why things do the things they do and it's been hard so far but I have a really good teacher and she's thrown us into it," said Schmidt.

Rachel is also the editor of the school's magazine the voice. "We try to do a lot of features, like right now we're doing one on bullying in school and then we're doing one on H1N1 flu," said Rachel.

Rachel is just one of 5 students working on the magazine and the only one with experience and her teacher says she has stepped up to help out the younger students.

Although Rachel excels in school and is very active during school time, it's what Rachel does outside the classroom that sets her apart.

"I'm team manager and statistician of the volleyball team and I also do track in the spring, I throw the shot put and discus and I'm secretary of the student council, I'm class President," said Rachel.

For being named our Scholar of the Week, Rachel will receive a $100 scholarship from Southeastern Electric, a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
