It looks like the same thing that was going around last week is going around in Windom, Minnesota.  Influenza, strep throat and RSV seem to be every where we check. 

We talked with family medicine physician Mary Olson at the Avera United Medical Clinic in Windom. And she told KSFY Influenza A and B is peaking right now in Minnesota and Windom is following suit. 

  From babies to the elderly, Influenza A and B has infected a lot of folks in the Windom area. Up until last week, they had mostly a cases but now B is on the rise. And according to Dr. Mary Olson, they've seen more cases of influenza this year compared to last year even in people who got the vaccine.

Dr. Mary Olson says, "You should still get the influenza immunization at the start of the season, keep your fingers out of your mouth, cough and sneeze into your sleeve, wash your hands frequency and get plenty of rest."

They've also had people come in to the Avera United Medical Clinic with strep throat. The symptoms are red sore throat, fever, swollen glands, a rash.. but not always... and sometimes an upset stomach with nausea.

The big difference in flu versus strep is the fatigue. The experts say you will feel a whole lot worse, like a bus ran you over, with influenza.

Dr. Olson says rest is key. If you get rundown and a bug is in the air, watch out, you are asking for it.
And that's what's going around this week in Windom.

Windom was also seeing some cases of RSV last week even though it peaked about 3 weeks ago.
