What's Going Around?
One word: pollen. And the reaction for many of you can be described with one word: awful. More bad news, you can develop allergies at any point in your life. Here's more on allergy season and what trees to avoid.

Dr. Mark Bubak at Dakota Allergy and Asthma in Sioux Falls says he is seeing a lot of patients who are armed with tissues. April and May are the prime months for tree allergies. The pines will have you pining for relief in June. If you have a tree allergy, your nose and eyes are probably reacting negatively.

Dr. Mark Buback says, "They've got terribly itchy eyes, they get red and watery, the nose plugs up, you'll have sneezing fits and will be fatigued as can be."

As far as allergies go the trees to avoid are: ash, pine, oak, sycamore, elm, boxelder, alder, birch, maples and hickory. It can compound asthma problems as well.

Dr. Bubak says, "When you are around things you are allergic too generally you have more asthma problems. Certain things are likely to cause asthma problems like mold, dust mites and pets."

Dr. Bubak says besides wearing a space suit outside (which he knows isn't practical)medications will help with your symptoms. Zertec-D is now available over-the-counter as well as generic Flonase called Nasaclear.

And that's What's Going Around this week, as well as, the next two months.
