We talk to Avera Health care Providers in Dell Rapids and although they are seeing a few patients with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease and strep throat, fall allergies are in full bloom.  Certified Physician Assistant Julia Abraham with the Avera Dell Rapids Medical Clinic and she says most everyone coming in the clinic is clinging to Kleenex.

Julia says, "We have seen a lot of allergies especially Allergic Rhinitis this time of year."

The PA-C says Allergic Rhinitis or hay fever involves an allergic reaction to pollen. The nasal cavity gets inflamed causing symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose and congestion. In this area, the culprit is typically ragweed as well as trees, grasses, and weeds.

Julia says, "We treat with over-the-counter antihistamines. If you come into the clinic we will give you some nasal sprays with steroids or a stronger antihistamines."

Julia Abraham says she is treating allergies in all age groups. The bad thing is you can develop allergies at any age. The number one way to help your symptoms is avoid what's triggering them. That may involve some testing or just some good old fashion observation. And that's what's going around this week in Dells.
