How to take care of your Terrarium

Terrariums are a Ecosystem…just on a smaller, more controlled condition. Terrariums may be small enough to sit on a desk, a table or some may be very large structures. All of them will have a complete cycle of life.

You should avoid placing the terrarium in a sunny window, but, instead, it should be placed in a bright area with plenty of bright light. The ideal daytime temperatures for terrariums range from 60 to 70°F (16-21°C), without keeping the plant too warm or too cold.

With enclosed terrariums the humidity will balance itself out. Unless the evaporation level inside the terrarium prevents you from seeing inside try to keep from opening the lid to a minimum.

Your terrarium should be moist to the touch, but not soppy wet. I remember my Mom use to say “the plants in a terrarium do not like their feet wet!” So I am reminded that terrariums only need be watered on a limited bases then a lot of little watering not a few big ones.

Don’t fertilize your terrarium as often as you would your other plants as the ecosystem will produce food for the plants.

Your local florist can be a great source of information on how to take care of your terrarium - all you have to do is call or stop at your flower shop. Satisfaction is only a purchase away.

Keep your terrarium out of the direct sun and away from drafts – and don’t place them on a heat producing appliance.
