Multiple Shooting at Cleveland High School

Five injured after a shooting at a Cleveland alternative high school.

By Caitlin Haedicke

Five people were injured before the 14-year-old student gunman ended the rampage by turning his gun on himself.

The 14 year old boy opened fire in the alternative school, just days after he'd been suspended from classes for fighting.

"We can confirm that the student was not supposed to be in the building today," said District Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eugene Sanders.

Students say he'd threatened violence before, even talking about bombing the school or stabbing students.

"He, like when he got suspended he said 'I got something for ya 'all' and I thought he was just playin 'cuz like he said it all the time, but I see that he was for real," stated a frightened student.

"He was just shooting in the air and then he started seeing people. He started pointing the gun at people and everybody started running," said another student.

While some students hid in closets and bathrooms, the teen went on a rampage. Authorities say he started firing in the school's administrative office, then worked his way to the classrooms, shooting two students and two teachers before killing himself.

"This is the toughest thing anybody has to deal with in life, is to watch children be harmed particularly in a way and an environment they're not supposed to be," said Mayor Frank Jackson.

The school is predominantly black and the shooter was white, but officials don't think race played a role in the shootings. Classes are canceled at all Cleveland public schools tomorrow.
