Untagged Geese Conviction Overturned

Judge's gavel

By Associated Press

A federal judge has overturned the conviction of a South Dakota man who argued a federal game warden had framed him.  U.S. District Judge Charles Kornmann has thrown out Caleb Gilkerson's conviction for possessing untagged geese. The judge dismissed the case and ordered that Gilkerson receive a refund of any fines and other costs he had paid.

A magistrate found Gilkerson guilty and fined him $2,100 after a one-day trial. Embattled U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent Bob Prieksat testified that he found untagged geese in Gilkerson's game-processing business in Pierre last December.

Officials limited Prieksat's duties after Governor Mike Rounds complained about the agent's behavior.

Well if they haven't limited his duties it sounds like they should limit them to the unemployment line. We don't need people like this federal game warden in South Dakota.

Another inaccutate story. I am always amazed and ask myself where do you get your information. No one limited Prieksat's duties. Have you asked any of these alleged officials you talk about, who are they. I HIGHLY DOUBT THE WRITER VERIFIED IT.
