Bus Crash Injures Four

This is what's left of the Enemy Swim Day School bus that crashed in Roberts County.

By Dawn Crawley

Amus Roberts was driving three children, who are from the same family, home when the Enemy Swim Day School bus crashed on a county road near Peever.

The driver was just miles from their house when the bus crashed.

"The bus was traveling east. It drifted off into the oncoming lane. As it got on the bridge it struck the guard rail with the left side of the bus," said Trooper Larry Englund, South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The bus remained on the wrong side of the road and went even further.

Officials say the bus went into the ditch, was airborne for about ninety feet and then finally landed.

"The driver was injured and in the vehicle. Three students that were on the bus in a car that had stopped and were in there to keep warm," said Trooper Englund.

Broken headlights and other pieces of the bus lay scattered around the accident scene and one man remains in the hospital.

Officials will be reviewing footage from the bus video camera for additional clues as to what happened.

Its a really good thing that no one was seriously injured and that there was no fatalities. God was watching over those people on that particular day.
