A South Dakota teenager has been ordered to serve 10 years in prison for a robbery, carjacking and burglary in Bismarck last fall.  Seventeen-year-old Jeff Brown Otter of McLaughlin was handed a 20-year sentence yesterday, with 10 years suspended. He pleaded guilty in November to ten charges, including robbery and felonious restraint.

Prosecutor Julie Lawyer played a 911 tape of a September 27th Subway restaurant robbery, and a tape of a carjacking later that month.  Two women told authorities they were forced at gunpoint to drive two men to an area of south Bismarck, N.D., then were told to get out of the car and run. They said they heard a gunshot as they ran.

Brown Otter and Henry Long were arrested October 1st. Long is to be sentenced next month.

Was this kid tried as an adult? Ten years seems pretty stiff.
