Update: Five Kids Hurt In Van Crash

Emergency personnel respond to the crash, which sent five kids to the hospital Tuesday.

By Drew Sandholm

Crying kids huddle off Minnesota Avenue.

Their daycare van had eleven kids on-board when it stopped for traffic ahead. According to the Sioux Falls Police Department, a careless driver struck the van from behind. The driver didn't see the bus stop.

The crash sent five kids to the hospital for bumps and bruises.

Dawn Button works with the daycare. While she wasn't on the van, she says it was a scary ride for the kids, who were kept safe. She said, "They all had their seatbelts on, so that's kind of the big thing. Makes it easy to say, 'See, that's why we wear our seatbelts.'"

Following the crash, two drivers were cited. One for driving without a license and another for careless driving. Both are class one misdemeanors.

I just saw these postings. As the driver (thank goodness my name hasn't been released, considering the assumptions of some people) of the bus, I think I should say that I do have a license and have never had it revoked. The person without a license was in front of me, I believe. The driver who hit me has insurance. So do I. So does the daycare. The state checks such things when we are hired. No one involved should be demonized. Pray instead. It does far more good. Thank you.

Previous article read, "Kidsn'us" van was hit from behind by another vehicle, which caused the van to hit another vehicle in front of it. I do not get where it was ever stated that the day care was ever at fault here. Quit being dorks (LOL) and read all the article involved first. Number one thing here is not who's to fault, its that those children were all in proper restraints and safe!! #1 point to the article!!

i work at the daycare...and the driver of the van DID have a license...it was the other two cars that got citations.

Lets wait for some more details before attacking the bus driver. It is possible that the driver's license had expired, which would lead to a No Driver's License ticket. Although troubling, a No License citation isn't anywhere near as serious as a Suspended/Revoked License citation. Obviously, this day care center needs to do more to make sure they have properly licensed drivers.

If you read the first article that came out about this accident you would see that there were three vehicles involved in this accident. I would be that the other two vehicles were the ones receiving citations - I highly doubt that the daycare would allow an unlicensed driver to operate their vehicle!

If you read the first article (this is an "update"), it states it was a three vehicle accident. Which means that the driver of the third vehicle probably didn't have a license, the driver of the van probably did.

If I understand this story, two drivers are cited. One without a license and the other for careless driving. It sounds like the driver of the van did not have a license. Why would a day care that is responsible for these children let someone without a license be responsible for transporting them.

Thank goodness none of the kids where seriously hurt on the van but this driver without a drivers license probably means he or she was driving without insurance what a nite mare for the parents of the injured children but lets hope none of them are hurt to bad but the persons involved in this crash that was at fault should feel terrible about hurting incent children.
