Update: Officer Shot During Drug Raid

Aberdeen police officer shot in the leg while searching a house for drugs.

By Dawn Crawley

A normally quiet neighborhood in Aberdeen was disrupted today by gunfire Wednesday. An Aberdeen police officer was shot in the leg during a drug raid at around 2:00 in the afternoon. The house police were searching is at 211 9th Ave. SE.

People living in the neighborhood say they have noticed suspicious activity around the house for a long time. Some parents say they are alarmed by this incident and are even considering moving.

Terry Marko, a neighbor to the house, says, "I drove down the street, decided to come by my house. And as I came by my house, the ambulances pulled up two doors down and I thought I would see what's going on and saw them carrying an officer out on a stretcher."

But Marko told us they've had suspicions about the house. "He told me that he thought it was a meth house because they had their windows open in the winter and fans blowing out so that's the first time i heard about this."

Officers were still on the scene late Wednesday night collecting evidence. Right now we know the officer is at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, and the matter is still under investigation.

Ever burn a pizza? If its winter time, you might wanna put a fan in the window and open the window to clear the air. It doesn't always mean "meth house" without any other evidence. Careful what you say, there are laws against slander.

Since facts are none yet and we are going on guesswork, I will predict: 1 Officer was shot by himself or fellow officer accidentally 2 A small amount of pot will be all the dope in the house 3 All of the neighbors will wind up looking like snoopy gossips on KSFY after all the facts are in

Was anybody arrested, were any drugs found. Police are so forthcoming when they make an arrest so that they can claim the credit and the glory for getting another criminal enterprise off the streets and keep their budgets intact, but let em screw up and they become mute.

This is starting to look bad. I suspect he may have been shot by a fellow officer. No word yet on a suspect or arrest. Doesn't look good.
