A South Dakota Soldier Returns Home

By Caitlin Haedicke

A South Dakota soldier returned home from Iraq Thursday night.

Major Don Kosiak Jr. is returning home after serving a three-month tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As Major Kosiak came down the walkway, he was greeted by friends and family who have surely missed him over the past three months. Kosiak is from Sioux Falls and member of South Dakota National Guard's 730th Area Support Medical Company. He deployed with the Arkansas National Guard in January of this year.

Kosiak served as a physician in southern Iraq. During his deployment, Kosiak provided routine, as well as life-saving medical care, to coalition forces. This is actually Dr. Kosiak's second tour in Iraq and he couldn't be happier to be home with his wife and three kids.

"It's very good to be back in Sioux Falls. It's been a long time. Everybody's been so friendly on the trip back, saying thank you and welcome home. So it's been a good experience. I didn't quite kiss the ground, but it's good to be home," said Major Don Kosiak Jr.

Dr. Kosiak may actually be familiar to some of you. He is actually a ER doctor at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
