By Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Eleven deaths are now reported after thunderstorms and tornadoes tore across the nation's heartland Saturday evening.

A twister killed at least six people in the northeastern Oklahoma town of Picher and left widespread destruction. Authorities say the death toll could go higher.

At least five people died in southwestern Missouri after the storms plowed through.

In Arkansas, a tornado damaged buildings and pulled down trees in Stuttgart. The National Weather Service says that trees are down across a wide area of the southeast Arkansas city.

The storms remain active, with many watches and warnings across a wide swath of the Plains and South.

Tornadoes killed 13 people on February 5th and another seven were killed in an outbreak on May 2nd.
