A Harrisburg daycare has closed its doors after the death of a child. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of an 8-month old baby boy, according to Lincoln County States Attorney Tom Wollman. The daycare center is located on Cliff Avenue in Harrisburg.
The daycare is Snicklefritz, a relatively new daycare to Harrisburg. From what we've heard, it's a daycare many families in Harrisburg take their children to and it's a situation that has shocked parents.
When Dale Zomer was called to pick up his 11-month-old daughter Taya from daycare, he was surprised by what he found.
"I went there to pick her up and the police were at the door. I couldn't even go in and get my child. So I was very concerned about what was going on," said Dale Zomer, who's daughter is in daycare at Snicklefritz.
It all started around 2:30 PM when Lincoln County Sheriff's Department received a call for an unresponsive baby. Shortly after a Sanford helicopter and an ambulance arrived at the scene. Dozens of parents then began arriving to pick up their children, confused and concerned. The Lincoln County Sheriff's office had blocked the entire area off and continued their investigation until about 7:30 PM when we noticed a note on the door.
Snicklefritz has posted two notes on their door. The first one says they will be closed Tuesday and unsure of when they will open again. The second note, posted just before the last person left, says they will reopen on Wednesday and lists their take on what happened. They state "a child became unresponsive while sleeping and though staff did all they could, he passed away."
But for Dale, that's not enough to convince him to return, stating, "We'll get some answers before we proceed."
We aren't sure exactly what caused the death of this 8-month-old baby boy, despite the daycare's note. The Lincoln County Sheriff's office is still investigating and an autopsy is being preformed.
