Pot Growing Operation Bust

Sioux Falls Police say this house at 2416 East Austin Street is where more than 80 marijuana plants were produced and distributed.

Sioux Falls Police have arrested two people after busting a major pot growing operation in East Central Sioux Falls.

For the past four years, Travis Heidbrink has lived with his wife near East Austin Street. While working in his yard lately, he thought something was up in the neighborhood. He said, "Seeing a lot of traffic. Always seeing cars down to that house and leaving, especially with this being a dead end street. It's kind of odd to see cars coming and going all the time on it."

Then Tuesday night, Sioux Falls Police raided 2416 East Austin Street. Inside, they found more than 80 marijuana plants. Officers arrested 29-year-old Tazz Joseph Taylor and 28-year-old Maria Leigh Degroot. Both were charged with Possession of Marijuana 1-10 lbs, Possession with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

It seems that part of neighbors concern is that the alleged pot-producing house is close to a couple schools, including Terry Redlin Elementary School and the South Dakota School for the Deaf.

"I know there's a lot of kids that I see walking up and down the sidewalks and stuff and I would hate to see young kids get involved in garbage like that," said Heidbrink.

Late Wednesday evening, Taylor and Degroot were released from Minnehaha County Jail after posting a $1,000 bond.

What will it take to get you the voters to relize this is a waste of resources to track and prosicute marijuana users. GoogleH.R 5842 and H.R 5843, see what is being considered in hopes of passing. We need to get drugs out of the hands of minors, but let adults make their own choice. Granted 80 plants is not personal use by most standards, but yet 12 states have approved such marijuana laws regarding use and production. Lets fight a battle that can be won, and not based on lies!
