Northern Exposure: Sisseton

By Dawn Crawley

The edge of Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota can be seen from the Nicollette tower, a tourist attraction in Sisseton.

Wednesday visitors from Winnipeg made their way up the tower.

"We just took a few days off to come see something new in North America for us Canadians. Normally we only go to North Dakota, but this time we thought we would venture to South Dakota," said Fred Hilf.

And the Canadians have made some observations.

"Landscape hasn't really changed from the top of the towers because everything is pretty much flat," said Hilf.

Sica Hollow is also one of Sisseton's most popular stops because of the beautiful scenery.

"There were a lot of legends about the bad hollow and so we were always afraid there were spirits that were going to be chasing us so it was a lot of fun as we were kid," said Mike Brooks.

But Brooks says he has not seen any spirits.

"We haven't yet. All we see is just the beautiful scenery," said Brooks.

Making Sisseton a great place to unwind.

"I think it is a place people come to relax. Take some time appreciate what's around you. Get on the lakes. Kick back," said Matt Glynn.

The Nicollette Tower is named after Joseph Nicollette. After coming over from France he created the first accurate map of the area between the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.

Between now and May 31st, Cenex will be awarding $100 gift certificates in the cities featured as part of our "Northern Exposure" promotion. For information on where to sign up, click here.
