Dust Devil Blamed In South Dakota Pilot Death

By Associated Press

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A strong dust devil is the likely cause of a shed collapse in Casper, Wyoming, that killed a South Dakota woman. Two meteorologists examined the scene at a baseball field, talked to witnesses and concluded it was a small, localized whirlwind.

Thirty-four-year-old Jennifer Job-Massa of Sioux Falls was killed there Wednesday after likely seeking shelter behind the shed while out for a run. She was a regional jet captain for Skywest Airlines and was in Casper for a stopover.

The forecasters believe the 60- to 80-mile an hour winds blew into the open windows of the shed, caught under the roof and created a large enough amount of pressure to lift the shed off the ground and topple it on its side.
