Father Gallagher's Last Mass

Rev. Gallagher will have to leave the U.S. by Tuesday.

By Drew Sandholm

For the past decade, Rev. Cathal Gallagher has served as pastor at three Roman Catholic churches in Kingsbury County. But parishioners in De Smet, Arlington, and Iroquois had to say goodbye to him today.

Originally from Ireland, Gallagher's application for permanent residency didn't go through and he has to leave the U.S. by Tuesday.

KSFY spoke with Gallagher after he said his last mass and talked with parishioners about the emotional farewell. See that story by clicking on the video attached to this article.

It is really sad. You have many people that are illegal or even legal immigrants that do nothing for society, drain our welfare system and even commit crimes. They are not deported and allowed to stay in the country. But here we have a self supporting man of god, who helps our community and he is being forced to leave. The government has its priorites all messed up. I would start by deporting the people who came here illegally and are being a burden to society insted of this decent man!!

Poor man! This story breaks my heart! I don't understand why they can't just give him residency..Look at all the illegals who don't do crap for the public...he is a good guy who is doing good for the US...just let him stay! I'm curious to know does he get to reapply when he's up there to maybe come back again??
