Jury Selection Resumes in Swaney Trial

By Associated Press

Jury selection continues in the trial of a Sioux Falls man who's charged with murdering a state park worker seven years ago at Luverne, Minnesota.

Three jurors were chosen Wednesday, and the judge said opening statements may come early next week.  Randy Swaney's lawyers hope to argue that the slaying was the work of a serial bank robber who escaped from the Minnehaha County Jail three weeks earlier. The judge has yet to decide if he will allow that defense, which is opposed by prosecutors.

Swaney is accused of killing 20-year-old Carrie Nelson during a robbery of the park office.  About $2,000 was taken in the holdup.
