Highway Patrol Makes Drug Arrest

By KSFY News

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says about 18 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop this weekend in Brule County.

Troopers say the drug seizure happened about 1:40pm on Interstate 90 just east of Chamberlain.  A highway patrol trooper had stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, during which a drug dog was deployed and discovered the drugs.

The out-of-state driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute.  No names have been released at this time.

Does everyone know why there are so many drug bust between wall and chamberlain?? The DCI in colorado lets the SDHP know when a shipment is coming through. They tell them the vehicle and licenes plate number. There is no where to run out in the middle of SD. So these "random drug searches" and "traffic violations" are not random at all! Just a little insiders tip!

How does a drug bust get turned in to a recial issue? This is rediculous!

Vlad and Wildflower...are you two really serious.. Education and experience go hand in hand. Marijuana doesn't make you kill people or rob people..You make that choice by yourself. And give up your rights, that makes you a sad American. To give up your right of search and seizure is to lose everything America is about. Saying that smoking a little doob here and there makes you lazy is like saying chips make you fat. It's not about what you take it's about what you do. Personal freedom..America

God wants us to smoke marijuana. If not, why did he put it here? It's natural and you can't overdose on it. Believe me, I've tried.

death to whitey!!! just kidding, but seriously, i'm offended by Adrian's statement. I didn't steal anybody's land. Drugs are bad for you. If what you are growing on private land is illegal, then the government does have the right to intervene. Think about the validity of what you are saying before you speak. BTW, God doesn't want you to smoke dope.

Adrian, come on now, you can't be native. you mean to tell me that you put your own people down and then claim to be a Native? By the way, what land was stolen from you? I'd like to know.

We should have check points at the border, and inspect ALL vehicles coming into/out of the state. We should also have random house searches. I'll gladly give up my 4th amendment rights...marijuana is the most harmful thing our country has ever faced!

I'm tired of hearing the white man stole your land. That was how many years ago. Get a job and earn $$$ like the rest of us, instead of us having to provide for u.

Great Job SDHP and the K-9 Crew. You help keep our roads sefe and illegal drugs and people off the highway.Great job. Our native culture never had Peji until the later years when it was introduced by settlers. Some have fallen for the stuff and live in an altered state of mind. but the majority of us want it gone. Again. Great Job S.D.H.P.

To Adrian, for thousands of years, people also did not smoke weed and then, while impaired by it, drive cars, and rob gas stops and banks and go to work impaired and cost taxpayers and employers billions of dollars because they don't carry their own load in our modern society. THAT is why it is illegal. People are harming and killing people under the influence, that includes themselves and the people that love them.

Marijuana was legal for thousands of years in this country. Then, the white man came, stole our land, and tells us it's illegal to smoke what God put on OUR land. Hey USA, you can steal our land but you can't steal our right to grow whatever we choose on it.
