Copper Thieves Strike Sioux Falls

By Associated Press

Thieves have stripped the copper wiring from a house that was under construction in Sioux Falls.

Police estimated the value of the copper at $2,000.  The rising cost of copper is attractive to thieves.  This year's South Dakota Legislature passed a law that's intended to help cops catch people who steal copper and other metals.

The law requires scrap metal businesses to keep records each time they buy more than $100 worth of copper, brass, aluminum, bronze, platinum, nickel and other metals.  Those records must include the date of purchases, and the names, addresses and signatures of sellers.

These people have no morals or standards. They are most likely addicts looking for their next fix. Makes me sick.
