Don Meyer Hospitalized After Crash With Semi

Northern State University men's basketball coach Don Meyer was involved in a serious car accident with a semi truck on Friday evening.

By Kent Erdahl

Northern State University men's basketball coach Don Meyer was in an accident with a semi-truck at about 5:00 p.m. on Friday, on highway 20 near the small town of Chelsea about 50 miles outside of Aberdeen.

Northern State Athletic Director Bob Olson says Meyer broke his leg and was flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls for vascular surgery. Olson says he spoke briefly to Meyer, and he says the legendary coach was conscious and he expects him to recover.

Meyer was on his way to a retreat for the Northern State basketball team, but he was alone at the time of the accident.

Meyer is the second winningest men's collegiate basketball coach in the nation, right behind Bobby Knight.

We will bring you the very latest on his condition as it becomes available.

I have learned so much about life and basketball from Coach Meyer. I have attended his academys, clinics, and camps. I have never seen a coach give to others so much. He is a special person and I pray that he has a speedy recovery.
