Update: Coach Meyer Undergoes Surgery

By KSFY Staff

Northern State University men's basketball coach Don Meyer underwent vascular surgery in Sioux Falls this afternoon, after suffering a broken leg in a collision with a semi yesterday evening.

The accident took place on Highway 20 south of Aberdeen near Chelsea, and involved a total of five vehicles.

The highway patrol says Meyer crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming semi. The semi then hit two other cars, and a fifth car went into the ditch to avoid the accident. Only Meyer suffered injuries.

Meyer, who is second only to Bobby Knight in career wins was taken to Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. He was then flown to Sioux Falls for surgery on his broken leg.

Today, people in Aberdeen say they're pulling for the coaching legend, and feel confident that he'll pull through.

Fallon Helm says, "It will obviously impact the team and the town and the college but with his coaching tactics and theories, that with perserverence everyone will get through it."

Members of the Northern State coaching staff have been with Coach Meyer in the hospital in Sioux Falls since the accident.
