Mountain Lion Killed Near Burke

A mountain lion was shot and killed near Burke, South Dakota on Monday. 

A representative with the Game, Fish and Parks department says the lion matches one that was hit by a car on Highway 44 near the Platte-Winner bridge in September.  The lion killed near Burke had injuries consistent with being hit by a car.  Residents of Burke say the mountain lion approached a person who was setting up a tree stand near Lucas.  The person scared the big cat away, but it returned and threatened the person before being shot and killed.

The body of the mountain lion is currently being sent to a lab in Rapid City to determine age, and weight.
