Update On Fatal Crash

By KSFY Staff

One man died and a woman is hospitalized after a drunk driving crash two miles north of Pierre late Friday night. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the driver of the car, who has not been identified, was driving drunk when they missed a curve, and rolled down a steep ditch. All three passengers were ejected from the car. Rex McClelland, 28, died at the scene. Crystal Gilmore, 28, was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital with life threatening injuries. Both are from Pierre. Ross Big Eagle, 21, was the third person in the car. He was transported to Saint Mary’s in Pierre with minor injuries. He was treated, released then arrested on unrelated Hughes County warrants.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Sergeant Chris Forster says the driver has not been identified.

Another crash happened Saturday morning a few miles South of Watertown near Highway 81. According to the Highway Patrol, one person died after driving off the road and hitting several trees. The name of the driver has not been released.

The Highway Patrol is trying to figure out what caused a fatal crash involving 67-year-old Phyllis Ann Singer near Vermillion Friday afternoon. Witnesses say the car she was driving suddenly went out of control and entered the median and rolled onto it's top. Alcohol and speed were not a factor. Ms. Singer was wearing her seatbelt.

I think it is very important for the media to make sure they have ALL the facts straight before they air any info to the public. Some of the info in regard to the fatal crash in Pierre is incorrect.

I wouldnt say education is the key, when it comes to drinking and driving, I am sure everyone who gets behind the wheel after drinking knows the risk, and they make that stupid choice anyways...its a losing battle! everyone loses!

I wish people didn't have to learn things the hard way. This kind of news never seems to go away. It just keeps coming. Articles like this continue to confirm my battle cry regarding the dangers of alcohol use/abuse. "Education is the key to making good choices." Dave ReasonsToStaySober.com
