The Hanson County Courthouse in Alexandria fell victim to age and fire on Monday.

The 103-year-old building was deemed structurally unsound several months ago. Voters approved a bond issue to build a new courthouse. County offices have been moved to temporary locations.

On Monday, officials started a fire to gut the vacant building.

County Highway Superintendent Clinton Degen said complete demolition will come later.
