Rounds To Cut His Own Travel

Gov. Mike Rounds speaking with KSFY Action News in Sioux Falls on Thursday, October 23, 2008.

By Associated Press

Gov. Mike Rounds is following his own directive that state government limit out-of-state travel.

The governor says he won't attend Barack Obama's inauguration in
Washington or a meeting Friday in Omaha, Neb., of the Council of
State Governments.

He recently implemented a hiring freeze in state government and told agencies to limit out-of-state travel and big-ticket purchases. Rounds says he's staying home to send a message that he's serious about cutting government spending.
