By Brian Allen

Action News has learned Elk Point, South Dakota's "Load King" facility will lay off 80 workers after the first of the year.

Jim Vennard with the Electrical Workers Union Local 1187 tells Action News 80 union members who work at the plant were told today they would be laid off as of January 2nd. Vennard also says the employees were told the lay offs would be temporary.

Load King makes semi trailers and parts for them.

The Elk Point facility has had it's share of worker related issues. The plant was the scene of a 9-month-long labor strike in 1999.
