The Deuel County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a young girl.

According to Houseman Family Funeral Home, nine-year-old Katie Barondeau died Friday afternoon. Find the full obituary here.

The Deuel School District Superintendent Dean Christensen says the girl died on school grounds Friday afternoon. Christensen says the girl was playing in the snow with another classmate on a non-school day. Something happened and the classmate ran into the school for help. A teacher rushed outside and called 911.

Christensen says medics came and continued to work on the child, but it was too late. He says the girl was in third-grade and a "terrific little kid."

The Deuel County Sheriff's Office has declined to release any details.

She's dead, well, she's dead. It's over. Stop your yapping and go on with your lives and hug your daughters and whip your sons before you go to bed so they become outstanding adults.

I am wondering the same thing JK I would like to know as well. Maybe I need to be a little more watchful of my children

I want to know what exactly happened so it doesn't hapen to any other children. We can learn by this and not to blame- accidents happen! my prayers are with the family and more- the child that was with her.

EXACTLY! it was an accident! no one can be blamed. it can happen to anyone, and it's nothing that needs to be drawn out into a big scenario.

Has anyone thought of letting this family and the community grieve and letting Katie Rest In Peace rather than spending time posting negative comments on a Tragic ACCIDENT?

Why do people have to always blame someone else? Things happen. maybe she had an undiagnosed illness. It wouldn't have mattered if a teacher or parent was holding her hand, she could have still died. STOP BLAMING. no one knows why she even died. the school is not to blame, she was not under their care & and even if she was at school, they still aren't to blame. Parents either, kids can't be watched 24/7. Condolences to the family!!!

Rather than place blame on the school or the parents cant people just realize that accidents happen and unfortunately we can't watch everything every second of every day(we do have to blink once in awhile). This is so tragic..maybe people should spend more time being empathetic than judgemental.

So now its the schools responsibility to protect our children all the time? I thought they were only responsible during school hours and if they choose to have a 4 day week then they are responsible 4 days a week. Plus we don't even know what actually caused her death so its a little early to point fingers and to who is to blame.

So do you beleive it was the parents fault. This could have happened at their own house supervised or not supervised.Tragic accidents like that could happen anywhere. Whether an adult was their or not.

If a school has a 5 day school week then it is the parents responsiblity to supervise the child on the playground or where ever the child is palying.

SOme of you people who post on here are just immature. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. May God help guide you in this terrible tragedy. THere is no point in blaming the school for having a four day week. Look how many schools are going to a four day week.

What does it matter if Deuel goes to school 4 out of 5 days during the week. This could have happend on Saturday or Sunday. So do you beleive that their should be school all 7 days. Its a terrible accident.

This may not have happened if Deuel had a normal 5 day school week. They save $ by having 4 days, but now lost a young child on a non supervised day.
