Whether Fort Pierre has the population to support two banks was the focus of argments before the state Supreme Court today.

The state Banking Commission ruled that Dakota Prairie Bank of Presho and Draper could build a new bank in Fort Pierre for its
main office. It would then have branches in Presho and Draper.

First National Bank in Fort Pierre appealed that decision, arguing the population can't support another bank.

A circuit judge upheld the Banking Commission's decision in May.

The judge's ruling being appealed to the state Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court will issue a ruling later.
