Students from five school districts go to Hub Area Technical School in Aberdeen. Warner is one school district in the program, but the superintendent says they need to withdraw from the program because they can't afford to send students.
Students from Warner attend classes like Automotive Technology at Hub Area Tech, but sending those students to class costs the school district about $40,000. The school superintendent says that's no longer financially feasible. We caught up with Tyler Hoter working at his dad's shop in Warner at Hofer's Repair. He says he has learned many of the skills he is using now at Hub Area Tech in Aberdeen. Tyler says, "I learn a lot going up there. Down in Warner we can't really get as wide of an aspect on parts of the engine and we don't have near the resources to do it and up at Hub Area there is a whole open shop."
But the Warner school superintendent says the $40,000 would be better spent on a new teacher or savings. Superintendent Kirk Easton says, "I think there will be some disappointment. The hopes are that we can add some additional classes here that won't replicate but can maybe somewhat take the place of those classes."
Tuesday night, the Aberdeen School Board talked about how much extra they would have to pay if Warner withdraws. It's about $32,000. Aberdeen School Board member, Brad Olson, says, "We will have to find those dollars within the budget we have presently." Three Hub Area Tech School Board members who are also members of the Aberdeen School Board agreed tonight to vote to allow Warner to withdraw from the multi-district.
