The Dougherty Hospice House Officially Opened It's Doors On Friday. It's Managers Say Facilities Like This One Will Be In Greater Demand As The Region's Population Ages.

Sioux Falls first advanced hospice center officially opened it's doors today.

The Dougherty Hospice House is located on the grounds of the Avera Prince Of Peace Retirement Community.

It is a 25-thousand square foot, 16 bed facility meant to care for those in the last stages of their lives.

The house is part of Avera McKennan Hospital. Regional President Fred Slunecka tells KSFY, as people live longer, more facilities like this one will be needed. "As technology becomes more advanced our ability to assist people in their final days only grows but that requires better and different types of facilities to make that possible."

The Dougherty House is named for Michael and Kathy Dougherty, who donated one million dollars to make the nearly five million dollar facility a reality.
