Around the town of Rosholt dozens have the flu, but inside the Rosholt Care Center, not one patient has it.

And the director says that's because they have learned from past experience.

"One year we had the flu and it was quite severe. It went through the nursing home. A majority of the residents were sick. We kept them in their room and they were fed in their room," said Jeanne Magnuson.

But residents are out and about this year because extra precautions have been taken to protect them.

"Good hand washing is number one and we have done lots of staff education too. And there is a sign outside the door," said Magnuson.

The sign warns of a restricted visiting policy. People that have been exposed to the flu are asked not to come in.

"It's a small community. Lots of people are aware of where the flu is at, so if they are contagious they stay home," said Magnuson.

And the community cooperation seems to be working.

"Right now we are real happy with it and hopefully it stays out," said Magnuson.

None of the 41 residents at the Rosholt Care Center has reported the flu, but some staff members have been sick.

The director tells KSFY they have recovered and are now back at work.
