Santa Claus made an early stop Wednesday at Sioux Falls' Avera McKennan Hospital.

It's never fun to be in the hospital. But being sick over the holidays can be even worse.

Today, a plan to change that: kids at Avera McKennan hospital got some holiday cheer delivered right to their hospital beds.

For a moment, it is a chance to these kids to forget their hospital setting and light up like every other kid when they see old Saint Nick.

This is 2 year old Keeran who is in the hospital at Avera McKennan for some oral surgery. He didn't quick know what to think when the jolly old man came calling today.

"He always comes around very quickly. He starts out shy but it doesn't last long." Bryan Van Gelder is Keeran's dad. Keeran and a lot of other kids today got gifts they wouldn't have otherwise received from people who know it's better to give than receive.

Sioux Falls Fire Department Captain Troy Scandin was on duty today...not fighting fires...but helping to warm some hearts.

Little Keeran Van Gelder may not realize it, but he is the beneficiary of the holiday spirit and a lot of love.

And as mom Natalee and dad Bryan watch him play, well...it says more than words ever could. "Lots of generosity and just kindness and caring from a lot of different people."

And if Keeran remembers this day when he gets older, he'll know that yes...there is a Santa Claus.

The Avera McKennan foundation plays a big role in getting the money together to get some of these toys for kids who can really use them.
