Flu Shot Program Successful (AP)

Health officials are reminding South Dakotans to get a flu shot.

By Associated Press

The South Dakota Department of Health says a program to give flu shots to children has been a success.

This year 40% of children received the shot. That's more than 91,000 doses of the vaccine. Last year the program provided 72,000 flu shots.

The Health Department focuses on young people because they account for a large percentage of the flu cases. They are also more likely to spread the disease.

Seems to soon to call it a success. Flu season is not yet over. It is definitely a necessary program, however, and a very smart idea.
