The End Is Near for Deer in Pierre

It would appear the end is near for deer in Pierre.  Officials say the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department has approved a permit for the city to kill 40 deer, starting on December 1st.  Deer wander in the capital city daily.

The permit expires February 29th. Pierre's animal-control officer will lead the effort.  Officials say the timing will depend on the weather and other factors.

All the deer that are killed will be donated to the public at large or to charitable organizations.

This is sad. Other than the geese along the Capitol grounds, the deer are one of the more pristine sights in Pierre. Obnoxious kennelled barking hunting dogs are more of a disturbance.
