Wake Up With KSFY: Volga-Mixing Old Time Traditions With New Growth

By Valerie Gutierrez

The city of Volga in east central South Dakota is less than ten minutes from Brookings. It has a population of about 1,500 but its getting bigger thanks to a steady housing market and new residential developments.

Volga Mayor Tom Pierce joined KSFY Morning Anchors Chris Studer and Valerie Gutierrez in the studio.

He talked about a number of things including the ground breaking for Pioneer Seeds new 3.5 million dollar South Dakota Research Center.

The city is also preparing for the annual Old Timers day celebration the second weeked in June.

Volga is a small but growing community. Mayor Pierce says the city will bring in another 27 lots for housing on the East side of town.
