Gas Line Breaks

By Drew Sandholm

A gas line broke in West Sioux Falls this afternoon.

It all happened in the 6700 block of West Westminster Drive. The line let loose just after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The line gave way as crews installed sump pumps on the side of the road. Crews spent much of the day securing the gas and pinch of the pipe. They had to bring in special tools to handle the metal piping.

Firefighters checked nearby homes to ensure the gas didn't spread, which made neighbors like Brian Ekeren happy. He said, "You know, it's far enough away and fixed with the air that it's not going to create too big of a problem here. So, I wasn't worried about it."

Crews managed to shut off the pipe and will have to replace the entire pipe.
