SD Guard Units Receive Training Notice (AP)

By Associated Press

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Two South Dakota Army National Guard units have been told to prepare for possible mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan starting next year.

Affected are 183 members of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade of Sioux Falls, and 104 members of the 211th Engineer Company of Madison and De Smet.

The National Guard says it's not an official alert or mobilization, but rather a notice giving the units time to train before possible deployment. Mobilization of the 211th would occur in August 2009. The other unit would mobilize in January 2010.
