Your Presidential Priorities

By Leslie Rupiper

When a new president is elected, what's the biggest issue you'd like to see him or her tackle? We caught up with some young voters to get their opinions. Politics is a hot topic among some of the students here on the Augustana campus, so we decided to ask a few of them what priority they are looking to see addressed by the next president.

Augie Sophomore Rachel Christiansen says, "I'm a nursing major here at Augustana so I really think that healthcare is a really important issue. Especially with the growing population of older people. It is going to be very important that we figure out ways to make it affordable for everyone in the United States and I think that's a really important issue."

Senior Shawnda Otto says, "I'm actually graduating in a couple of weeks and going on to graduate school and I'd have to agree with healthcare as the main issue, because I know I won't be covered for 3 straight months until iI begin school again and that's a really big issue for me because you never know what will happen. So healthcare needs to be available all the time for everybody."

Sophomore Lucas Isder says, "I'm a law enforcement major and gun control is a huge thing with us. It's not a very safe job all the time, so we need to keep that controlled and safe for everyone: college kids and no more school shootings."

But we want to know what you think. What should the top priority be for the next president? The war in Iraq, healthcare, education or the economy. You can vote right here on ksfy.com.  We'll have the results for you Thursday night on KSFY Live at 10:00.
