More Schools Take Part in Laptop Program

South Dakota teachers got a training course Wednesday in how to use these new laptops in the classroom.

Fifteen more South Dakota schools have been selected to participate in the third year of a state program to provide high school students with laptop computers.  State Education Secretary Rick Melmer says another 1,496 students will have computers in the next school year.

Schools contribute $2 for every $1 in state money for laptops.  After this year's Legislature rejected a $2.9 million request from Governor Mike Rounds to expand the program, the governor said he'd seek outside funds for it.  Expenses for adding 15 schools this fall will be paid by Citibank.
