Divers Search For Missing Teen

By Caitlin Haedicke

A dive teams have joined the search for 19-year-old Brandon Swanson, of Marshall, Minnesota, who has been missing since early Wednesday. Swanson called his parents shortly after putting his car in the ditch on Wednesday, but nobody has heard from him since.

Crews began searching on Wednesday around the area they found Swanson's car. That was about a half mile North of Highway 68 on the border between Lincoln County and Lyon County, about fifteen miles northwest of Marshall. Unfortunately, they had no luck. So Sunday, searchers moved their focus West, to an area of the Yellow Medicine River in Lincoln County where divers began searching in the water.

Day five of the search for missing 19-year-old Brandon Swanson involved an extensive sweep of the Yellow Medicine River. Dive teams were covered head to toe in cold suits, as they spent the day wading through the water.

"They're physically on the river bank and on the river bottom, feeling through the stuff on the bottom to see if they can find this young man," said Lincoln County Sheriff Jack Vizecky.

Four search and rescue dogs all drew search crews to this area on Thursday. The river banks and surrounding area were searched, but Lincoln County Sheriff Jack Vizecky says nothing was found.

"With the information that we had about the young man having a phone conversation with his father, we presumed that the best place to begin search would be in the river," stated Vizecky.

The water in the Lincoln County search area is 10 feet deep in places and now, almost 20 thousand acres have been searched by diver, horseback or on foot. But volunteers say the search will continue until Brandon is found.

Helicopters will be used Monday. A family spokesperson said they believe the foot search is done, but that does not mean the search is over.

Brandon is a good kid who liked to have fun every once in a while! He's open minded and caring! I feel hopeless, this is the worst part, not knowing what were going to find! Hopefully he is found safe. We miss you Brandon and hope that your ok!
