Spectacular Weddings

By Leslie Rupiper

Some women start planning their wedding when they're little girls. Others get ideas from magazines and t-v shows. A growing number of brides-to-be are going all-out for their big day. We caught up with one, hoping to create a spectacular wedding.

Former Miss South Dakota, Callee Bauman admits she's planned a lot of different types of weddings in her head since she was a little girl. But when her fiance, Jonathan Wachter popped the question for real, she knew they wanted a wedding that would reflect where they met: Disneyworld. Callee says, "We're very much into getting an environment created for our guests and for people." Callee and Jonathan went with a royal theme: whimsical, but gothic. They would tie the knot in Huron, but the reception site would have to accommodate a lot of people. Callee says, "As of right now, there's about 500 people coming, but the RSVP's aren't all back yet, so we'll see." They decided on the Huron Event Center, and Callee gave us a sneak peek at some of the decorations she would use to set the theme of her spectacular wedding. It started with the invitations, and a crest created specially for the couple that included their initials. Calle says, "Then I also wanted this very vintage. I wanted it to look like a painting in the crest." Callee showed us her designer head piece, the giant lanterns that would serve as centerpieces, and the little vessels with a special purpose. Callee says, "The smaller one holds my wedding band and the bigger one holds Jonathan's."

A growing number of women are opting to have more up-scale weddings, modeled after what's in magazines, and local vendors say they're ready to accommodate them. Leah Moeller with Envision Wedding Studio says, "Lots of people are upping their budgets a little bit, spending a little more on invitations and the detail stuff." Leah says Envision Wedding Studio gives brides-to-be a chance to see their products first-hand: whether it's table settings, centerpieces or invitations. Moeller says, "Basically the whole reception part is kinda the wow for the guests."

Another big wow: the bride's gown. April Overman with Interlude Bridal Shoppe showed us some of their most expensive wedding dresses. She says they're working to bring more high-end designer gowns into their shoppe. April says, "I've had a lot of people ask for more of the high fashion. They've brought in magazines of pictures of dresses that are more east coast style they call it."

As for Callee Bauman, she says her vendors were eager to make her dreams a financial reality. She says, "They were a creative, a little more cost-effective to get that platinum idea without the platinum price." So how did Callee and Jonathan's wedding turn out? She was stunning in her designer gown, and the groom was dressed in a tux that fits with their royal theme. The church was decked out as well, but the true transformation was to the Huron Event Center where some 800 guests saw a a dream come true for the bride. Callee said, "One particular item that I wanted was a huge wedding cake." She got it, complete with fountains and all. For this happy couple a spectacular wedding they've been dreaming about and wanting to share with the people they love.

Now we'd be remiss if we didn't tell you that Callee's new husband, Jonathan, is an employee here at KSFY, so we're extra happy for the newlyweds.

People can choose to spend there money however they wish. As for Callee and family...great people. It was an honor to share their day with them. It fit very well with Callee and Jonathon's story. All the best guys!

extremely tacky and distasteful, aside from wasting thousands of dollars, callee continues to make a fool of herself and a joke of her family.
