Rushmore Fireworks Tonight

The sky over Mount Rushmore National Memorial will light up Thursday evening with the annual fireworks display.  The Shrine of Democracy is hosting its 11th Independence Day celebration that also includes patriotic music and dance, presidential re-enactors, children's shows and military aircraft fly-overs.

The 28-minute fireworks show will include more than 5,200 shells.  The state tourism office says about 30,000 people usually attend the annual celebration and more than 50 million viewers watched the fireworks display on television last year.

Our family attended the Firewroks show last night, 7/3/08, at Mt Rushmore. It's was absolutely spectacular!!! We drove from Omaha to see it and was WELL WORTH the drive. It is something our children, 8,9 and 11, I think, will remember for the rest of their lives....or til we come back again next year.
