Officials at Mount Rushmore National Memorial estimated that 30,000 people were on hand to watch a 28-minute fireworks show at the memorial Thursday night.

Haze from Canadian fires that limited visibility elsewhere in the Black Hills didn't reach Rushmore all day.  A daylong celebration dedicated to military veterans included musical acts, children's programs, military flyovers and a flag-folding ceremony involving a World War I veteran.

Music and cultural entertainment was planned at the memorial Friday, followed by the regular evening program and lighting of the sculpture.
