The home foreclosure rate in South Dakota trails the national average.  The foreclosure rate was 1.21 percent through the first three months of the year, up slightly from the previous quarter. The Mortgage Bankers Association says the national foreclosure rate was 2.47 percent.

During the same period, 2.89 percent of home loans in South Dakota were past due. Nationally, the delinquency rate was 6.35 percent.

The South Dakota Housing Development Authority says foreclosure rates for first-time homebuyers through its program are only 0.54 percent.
