Hog Farm Ruling Official

Hundred attend a community meeting in Wagner to discuss a nearby hog farm and its effects.

By Associated Press

A federal judge has confirmed in writing that a hog farm owned by eleven Iowa farmers is not part of South Dakota's Yankton Sioux Reservation.

Judge Lawrence Piersol held a hearing last week and issued an order Tuesday concluding that the roughly 40 acre site is on private property.  Three American Indians representing themselves filed a lawsuit on behalf of Head Start parents against Longview Farm of Hull, Iowa, which is building the hog confinement operation west of Wagner.

Piersol did not dismiss the lawsuit. But he says the burden is on the plaintiffs to prove allegations that the farm is violating the Clean Air Act and other federal laws.

These hog farms are much safer than the City Lagoons We all live near. We know what is in our hog lagoons.Hog manure/soil fertilizer Our lagoons are contained in 10" concrete walls. City Lagoons are built with dirt levees.City lagoons are much more toxic City Lagoons will not be shut down because we all like in door plumbing. Don't be emotional get the facts then lets debate That is the American way

If a hog farm was being built in your back yard Sioux Falls or Minn Atty. would you not be concerned? And this farm is being built by a daycare center no less. Is it really less important because we are dealing with Native American children? CAN WE JUST REMEMBER THE CHILDREN!! It has nothing to do with jobs, or why people there do not work (which is none of your concern Minn Atty) I am sure you have plenty to keep busy then to worry about the job status there. Come on!!!!

The question is not concerning jobs or progess, it is the children that will be affected by this. Mr. Minnesota Atty why must you concern yourself with the people and their job status. Your point has nothing to do with the issue of harm being imposed on our children. In fact it proves my point even more that in 2008 even attorneys are uneducated in beliefs, are we all not human?????

Yes, it's 2008 and most people in that area still don't want to work for a living. They are victims of themselves.

Why are people in that area so afraid of progress and maybe a chance at a job? Seems like they will try to stop anything from being built in their backyard.

Your comment is extremely ignorant which, if you are not familiar with the term it means "lack of knowledge or awareness." Please read your comment again and seriously ask yourself who is whining? It's a shame that we live in a society with people of your mentality still. Wake up it is now 2008 COWBOY.
