Sonar Used To Find Car

The vehicle of a missing Huron man was found in this lake Thursday.

By Drew Sandholm

South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks were using a newly purchased type of side sonar in a Huron lake when they came across something big.

By the time law enforcement officials had helped them to pull it out of 12 feet of water, they realized they had recovered the car of a Huron man who had been missing for more than 13 years. Chief Doug Schmitt has confirmed that the vehicle is the white, 1990 Chevy Beretta that Heath Wayne Styer was last seen driving in the early morning hours on June 26, 1995.

Police will not confirm is Styer's body is in the car, but continue to investigate the matter with the help of Beadle County Sheriff's Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation's Cold Case Unit.
