Stimulus Check: Round #2

Some in Congress are working to issue another economic stimulus check.

By Drew Sandholm

Just months after most of us received an economic stimulus check, the wheels are in motion to do it all over again.

The first time around, Americans got as much as $600 and the thought was that the money would help the economy. With talk of recession, some U.S. representatives are looking to issue another stimulus check.

For Michelle Hubbel of Sioux Falls, she'd do exactly what she'd did with her last stimulus check. She said, "I put it in a savings account and if I were to receive another one that's what I would do with that also."

She's one of many people excited that Congress is thinking of cutting another stimulus check.

"It's money, you know, like that's what everybody says, you know? Everybody was excited with the checks," said Hubbel.

Democratic U.S. Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says she's still gauging how the first economic stimulus package affected the economy.

"We know people are hurting, but at the same time it's important that we look at all the other things that congress is doing to try and stabilize the economy," said Herseth Sandlin.

Read that full-interview here.

If Congress decides on issuing another stimulus check, Michelle Hubble would be all for it.

"I would be excited. I mean, free money is free money, you know?" she said.

I dont think a gift card to Walmart is very smart if we are trying to improves the USA's economy. Afterall most of the Walmart money ends up in other countries... I have nothing aginst Walmart afer all I'm there about everyday considering the town I live in... Walmart is the only place we have to shop.

thats not a bad idea...considering they sell everything. the only downside to that is that some people might need them to pay their heat, electric.....etc....but very good idea other than that! :)

Apperently your kids aren't very old. In SOUTH DAKOTA you can drive at age 14. You get your permit for 6 months/driving w/ a parent/guardian. Than after that six months is up you can drive from 6AM-10PM. so before you sit there and rant about people letting their children drive make sure you have your facts. Otherwise it makes you look pretty silly don't you think?

I agreed you couldn't have said it better. If anonymous thinks their to good for it than donate it to somebody who need it. Maybe they can use it to buy things for their familes that they need.

Everything is going up these days, Just because someone could use some money doesnt mean they over spend or live out of their means. Before it gets to that point we will cancel our internet, as we dont want to live down to our last cent. IF we were to get a stimulus check, it would be a bonus for us for school clothes, christmas clothes etc. To the person that thinks you have to pay this back. Read the IRS website. its been allover the news etc. you wont pay this back!!

Anonymous I dont know what you are talking about but you don't have to pay them back on your taxes. Down the road yes but not now. HOpefully than the economy will be better.

Not sure if annonymous has raised kids before?.. Do you try shopping for a family of 5 or more? We dont over spend and cable isnt like were drug hounds. Give it up! Funny how you have internet though huh?.. How do you pay for that. The thing here is, its not your buisness how people spend their money. Have you not seen our economy its horrible. I would gladley take another check, beings good ol' George is trying to fix what he has done. Shut your mouth, if you dont need it, give it to someone

Anonymous your comment irritates me. How do you come up saying if you live w/in ur means you wont be broke?? Thats a lil judgemental to me. With prices on everything going up that takes from the wallet. Even if you were to live "within ur means" some people still could use the extra money to put food on the table or winter clothes on their kids back since they outgrew them last year. I just simply dont think you should judge and act like your better than everyone else unless you know them.

You people that think that you are entitled to this "free" money just don't get it. Your taxes either have to go up or the deficit will grow. Spending more money than you make is the reason that the people that feel that it is owed to them are always broke!!! internet, cell phone, fast food, prepackaged food at the grocery store. etc.....

Wednesday, Jul 23 at 8:44 AM Anonymous wrote ...

To Annonymous that has all the answers!! Why in Gods name haven't you ran for President. Seems like you have all the answers. And yes, i do live within my means, becuase i have cable doesn't mean i over do it. And i bought a motorcycle to save on gas. I would be using the same amount paying for public transit that is suppose to be so affordable. If you must know, we paid in that money our entire lives, it's nice to get it back. you should take your check and get a life.

Wednesday, Jul 23 at 8:14 AM ME wrote ...

I laugh when people are upset about everything going on. I agree with the guy that talks about how people are going to have to turn off their cable or internet. Im pretty sure people can live without cable or internet. Ive been to people's house that dont have cable and internet and they are still happy. Get over yourself when you say you have to cancel your internet and cable subscriptions. Thats plain rediculous. Its a want not a NEED.. DUH.

Wednesday, Jul 23 at 2:52 AM Anonymous wrote ...

You wouldn't be so broke if you lived within your means. Can't afford it, get rid of it! Never had cable 25 years ago. Get rid of it. Its just to easy nowdays. Can't afford the gas take public transit or quit running all the time. Live within your means. I thinks they should throw that tax check in ther garbage. Next April you will be the very people complaining because ou have to pay taxes on that money. Live within in your means and you wouldn't always be struggling.

Send us one now and one at christmas time. You owe it to us for being such a bad president. And make it worth more this time.

Tuesday, Jul 22 at 7:48 PM Anonymous wrote ...

I highly doubt this will happen. But, I will gladley take the money if they do. The economy sucks and were looking to disconnect the internet and home phone if this keeps up. It would be real nice for the holidays. But, since the last one took several months to come into play the idea of getting one by Christmas is a long shot. I will not hold my breath on this one. but, it would be nice!! That is forsure..

If you do not pay any taxes you had better not be getting a stimulus check, or please do not ask for one, for that would make you a "freeloader" which used to be a very shameful thing.

I think they should wait to go by 2008 taxes, and send them in the spring of next year. Some of us started new things in 2008 and need a chance to make the guidelines to receive a stimulus check.

yes it would be great they do it again but it would also be great if they gave what they say they are going to give,it went from 600.00 to 300.00 now if you want it spent make it big enough to spend in more then one place or pay more then one bill or food once give what you say, and make it count after all all that get it have to over time pay it back to the deficet,,

I never even got a first check. Since I was under 18 for two months of the 2007 year, my mother was able to claim me, yet she never got $300 for me because I am now older then 18. BUT I never got anything either because she claimed me!

It is not a point of not making enough money, nor making too much money. I am on hold with the IRS now and have been for 45 minutes. At least I was able to get in to be put on hold this time.

I am glad they are possibly doing another check. With the rise in gas prices and the way it affected grocery prices, it sure didn't help me out too much.

Tuesday, Jul 22 at 10:12 AM Frustrated wrote ...

I didn't get one because they said I didn't make enough money. Nice, huh? I wonder who it really is supposed to help. And no, I don't get any aid.

Tuesday, Jul 22 at 10:08 AM Heather wrote ...

I would love if they would do it again. I agree with NEED HELP, the way food and gas prices are it would help alot of people that are barely living paycheck to paycheck.

I have not Received the first one yet. I paid my taxes on April 15th and the IRS said it should be sent in approximately 8 weeks from the time you file. Then try and get a phone number to call that someone will actually answer. Any thoughts on finding info. I have tried the website. No INFO.

I agree that disbursing the money around the holiday season would help boost the economy more than doing so at any other time of the year. People will inevitably be spending more money during that time!

Monday, Jul 21 at 10:05 PM dumb... wrote ...

Its stupid how some people are saving it! I understand times are tough and you need a cushion. But seriously ppl. this money is to be spent to help the economy. If you need money than buy groceries or something that you know you can use so it gets distributed. I hope they do another one. However, this time I hope its more organized. Last time I got 1,000 less than I was told I would.

Monday, Jul 21 at 9:15 PM Unknown wrote ...

If they want the money spent instead of saved, maybe they should think about disbursing the money in November & early December when everyone is in the stores.

Monday, Jul 21 at 8:04 PM NEED HELP wrote ...

THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY WOULD DO THAT AGAIN!! WITH THE WAY GAS ND FOOD PRICE GOING SO HIGH IT WOULD HELP SO MANY PEOPLE AND THE ECONOMY!!! ID APPOVE IT IF I WAS APART OF CONGRESS
